Qinghai 110kv substation Wisepac power collection terminal IEC102 protocol digital mining cases

I. Project Background and Requirements

Project Location: Xiyu Nonferrous Metals 110KV Substation, Golmud City, Haixi Prefecture, Qinghai Province, China

Project background: Recently, a Beijing-based technology company found us to collect the substation’s VIA Information Technology’s electric energy collection terminal (WFET-3000), the collection terminal’s internal protocol is IEC102 protocol, and it needs to realise the data collection of IEC102 protocol.

Project Objective and Difficulties: To realise the data acquisition of Wisepac’s electric energy collection terminal, IEC102 protocol is converted to MODBUS TCP protocol and connected to the upper computer. Low-cost way to achieve, IEC102 protocol is different from other conventional protocols for collection, the protocol structure is complex: IEC102 protocol is a standard protocol used for the transmission of the cumulative amount of electric energy in power systems, using a layered structural design, including the application layer, link layer and other multi-layer protocol stacks, the protocols of each layer have a strict format and interaction process requirements, understanding and implementation of a high degree of difficulty. Variety of data types: It supports the transmission of multiple data types, such as electric energy data, state data, parameter data, etc. The differences in coding methods and transmission rules for different types of data increase the complexity of collection. Cumbersome protocol details: including the definition of frame format, error control mechanism, link establishment and release process, and many other details, any one of the understanding of the deviation may lead to collection failure.

To address the difficulties of IEC102 protocol acquisition, the technical level develops and customises IEC102 protocol acquisition software and drivers to achieve customer software and hardware acquisition.

Project Implementation Technical Solution

Customers on-site co-operation, with our company’s digital acquisition of IOT DAQ host computer data acquisition software, on-site serial port wiring docking local servers (host computer), local servers (host computer) to install the host computer software, the serial port form of wiring connected to the host computer, with the success of the test acquisition, to solve the difficulties of the protocol reading and parsing, and ultimately the landing environment to the implementation of the hardware products.


According to the corresponding protocol description and point table information provided, the host computer configures the relevant points, and after docking and debugging, the acquisition is implemented.

Successful protocol acquisition, to modbus TCP function of the corresponding hardware, the use of my company’s products communication manager (DAQ-GP-DPU102), the network mode is as follows

On-site installation and implementation, the electric energy collection terminal is connected to the communication manager through the serial port, the communication manager is wired for power supply, and the upper layer network port is wired for modbus TCP output.

III.the implementation of the final display of data collection

For the collection of data fields, the customer mainly reflects the amount of electricity, other power information is not pushed, docking data example (the following figure), data successfully docked.
